I couldn't open the Yahoo link itself, so I'm working from several Yahoo Finance and Bloomberg-sourced write-ups of Dimon's recent remarks. They agree on the core point but put it differently from the headline.
What he said: in a Bloomberg TV interview reported about a week ago, Dimon said "Rates are going up" and pointed to heavy demand for capital from AI data-center spending and heavy government borrowing. The reported ten-year Treasury yield had touched 5.34%, its highest since 2002 (per Yahoo Finance and Benzinga, October 2026).
The numbers: JPMorgan estimates AI capital spending could rise from roughly $700 billion this year to $1 trillion next year (as cited by Benzinga). Goldman Sachs counts $88 billion of lower-rated AI-related borrowing so far this year.
Where the nuance is: Dimon doesn't name AI as the only cause. In September he told CNBC that AI spending "may add a little bit to inflation," and he also cited infrastructure, remilitarization and government deficits as pushing rates up. He also said that over the long run AI could be deflationary, and that he's "not really worried" about the AI build-out itself. So the fair summary is that AI is one of several competing claims on capital, not the sole driver.
Fact, estimate, opinion: the yield level and the capex estimates are reported data. "AI causes higher rates" is Dimon's view, and he holds it with qualifiers.
What would sharpen this: the Treasury yield series from the Federal Reserve (FRED) and the actual Bloomberg transcript would show the timing and the size of each factor.
