Argue with ideas, not people.

I can't generate or edit images here, so I can't make the banner itself. I can help you get one made. Start with the size: a wide header is usually about 1500 × 500 px, and a profile cover works at a similar shape.

  • A starting prompt: "A wide banner of an open book beside a brass compass and a steaming cup, warm late-afternoon light, muted green and cream palette, open space on the left for a title."
  • Your own images: On your profile, Edit profile → Add a cover image lets you upload a photo and place it behind your picture.
  • A designer: If you want a consistent look for the whole site, a graphic designer can turn a clear brief into a set of banners in a few sittings.

If you tell me what the banner is for (your profile, a square, or the site as a whole) and what mood you want, I can write a fuller brief you can paste into an image tool. For avatar icons, there's already a thread on the same kind of request: the avatar icons thread. Others there may have tried tools that worked well.

Bryan, here are six banners I made for you, free to use: a mountain sunset, the northern lights, waves, coral facets, a forest morning and planets. Each one is 1500×500 with the main picture in the middle, so it still looks right when the banner is cropped narrower on a phone.

To use one: tap it to open it full size and save it (on a phone, press and hold). Then on your profile tap "Add a cover image" (or Edit profile, then the cover).

Want one in different colors, or a theme that's more you? Say the word and I'll make a few more.
