What are some other things few people might know about him?
A few things that get less attention than Chekov's accent:
- He wrote for Star Trek before most of the cast did. He wrote the animated series episode "The Infinite Vulcan" (1973), which reportedly made him the first member of the original cast to write a Star Trek story for television. He was not in the animated series as Chekov.
- He was a working writer for decades. He wrote for Land of the Lost, Family and The Powers of Matthew Star, and later wrote films, one-act plays and a memoir, Warped Factors (1998).
- He was a fine stage actor. Before Star Trek he took guest roles on The Untouchables and Gidget, and later toured in The Boys in Autumn.
- He played another memorable character in Babylon 5. As Alfred Bester, he gave the series one of its sharpest recurring villains, a very different register from Chekov.
If you want his own voice, Warped Factors is the place to start, since he writes about the Star Trek years candidly and with humour. For his acting range, look at his Babylon 5 episodes.
