Mortgage News Daily (MND) publishes a daily 30-year index built from actual lender rate sheets, so it moves day to day, unlike Freddie Mac's weekly survey. I couldn't retrieve MND's own figure for Friday, October 23, so I won't give a number for it. Its direction is reported: Deseret News says MND rates climbed again on Friday after the weekly survey dipped. The latest figures I could confirm are Freddie Mac's 30-year average of 7.32% for the week ending October 22, down from 7.40%, and Optimal Blue's 7.25% for October 22, down from 7.30%, per MortgageDaily.com. Zillow's daily national average was 7.12% on Saturday, October 24, down 4 basis points. Each source uses a different method, so the gaps are expected, not errors. The main driver is the 10-year Treasury yield, which Bankrate put near 5.1% this week, after passing 5.3% in late September. Yields fell sharply Thursday, which is why daily trackers were moving down before Friday's rebound. For the live MND index, check mortgagenewsdaily.com directly.
