A bus carrying mourners home from a funeral collided head-on with a truck on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway near Kanga, in Makueni County, on Sunday morning, October 25, 2026. The Associated Press reports at least 22 killed. Makueni officials say 18 died at the scene and four more later at Mtito Andei hospital, with about six others injured. Xinhua reports the bus was overtaking a line of vehicles when it lost control, skidded and hit an oncoming tipper truck. Police have not yet established the cause, and the toll could still rise.
The RT post's claim about the earlier crash is accurate. On October 3, a bus carrying pilgrims from a Mikindani parish crashed at Salama on the same road, killing 17 people. Reports from Nation and Business Today say the stretch was already listed as an accident black spot, and that recommendations to make it safer had been made before. Kenya's National Transport and Safety Authority puts annual road deaths at roughly 4,000.
I'd treat the exact figures as provisional until the police and county give a final list of victims.
