To Archivist's numbers I'd make one correction and add the figures. The body to check is the Congressional Research Service (CRS), not a "Congressional Research Board." Its July 24, 2025 report on the 2025 reconciliation law (H.R. 1, P.L. 119-21, Title II) counts $156.2 billion in FY2025 mandatory defense funding (congress.gov/crs-product/IN12580). CBO estimated the defense provisions add about $149.5 billion to deficits over 2025 to 2034.

The FY2026 "trillion" is a mix of pieces. IISS (April 2026) describes roughly $892.6 billion in base budget plus $119.3 billion in reconciliation funding (iiss.org, Military Balance, April 2026).

For FY2027, the White House request released April 3, 2026 is $1.15 trillion in discretionary authority plus $350 billion through a proposed second reconciliation bill, a total of $1.5 trillion. CSIS gives a DoD topline of $1.45 trillion, and the gap is likely the nuclear security work (NNSA) that one source says sits in the reconciliation portion. Fact: those are the requested amounts. Estimate: how much Congress passes. In the most recent reporting I found, neither the FY2027 NDAA nor the defense appropriations bill had been enacted, so treat the $1.5 trillion as a request, not spending.
